Towanda Tops South for Fifth Straight Win.

The Towanda Black Knights got three touchdown runs by Eric Potter Friday night to come away with a 49-13 win over the South Williamsport Mountaineers Friday to improve to 6-1 on the season.

Potter scored on runs of 9, 48 and 25 on the night as he ran for 72 yards on just seven carries.

Potter's first score came with 7:14 left in the first quarter on a 9-yard run and after Dakota Roof's point-after kick, the Black Knights held a 7-0 lead.

Jake Lamphere, who ran for a team-high 86 yards on 10 carries, found the end zone with a 57-yard run with 7:18 left to play in the first half and after Roof's point after, Towanda was up 14-0.

Potter scored his second touchdown of the night on a 48-yard run with 3:50 left to play in the first half and Roof again added the point after to give the Black Knights a comfortable 21-0 halftime lead.

Adam Harris opened the second half scoring with a 17-yard scamper with 7:41 left in the third quarter and after Roof added his fourth point after for the night, Towanda took a 28-0 lead.

Potter then found the end zone for the third time on the night, this time from 25 yards out with 6:40 left in the third, and Roof again added the point after for a 35-0 Towanda lead.

With 3:01 left in the third, Ray DePaola bulled in for a 12-yard scoring run to put Towanda up 41-0 after the failed extra-point attempt.

The Mounties got on the board to start the fourth quarter as Eric Smithgall hauled in a 16-yard pass from Mark Smithgall with 11:09 left to play in the game, and after the missed extra point attempt, the Black Knights held a 41-6 lead.

South cut that lead to 41-13 with 9:36 left in the game as Wade Morehart found an opening in the Towanda defense for a 38-yard scoring run and Ian Catherine added the point after.

Towanda capped the scoring with 5:41 left to play as Travis Chesla ran in from 1 yard out for the score and Roof threw to Dane Kinsman for the two-point conversion to end the scoring for the night.

Roof added 49 yards rushing on four carries for the night while Harris added 42 yards on eight carries.

Lamphere was two-of-six passing for 12 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions, completing passes to Kris Shrimp for 5 yards and R.J. Baker for 7 yards. Roof finished the night completing one-of-one for 38 yards to Zac West.

Morehart led the Mounties in rushing with 45 yards on 14 carries with a score and Patton Bartholomew added 36 yards on 10 carries.

Smithgall completed three-of-eight on the night for 38 yards, completing two passes to Bartholomew for 17 yards and one to Smithgall for 16 yards.

The Black Knights, now 6-1 on the season, will return home for a huge matchup with North Penn while the Mounties, now 1-6 on the season, will head to Wyalusing next Friday.
