CANTON - The Small NTL title just got more wide open as Muncy defeated Canton 28-7 in football action Saturday.
The Muncy win leaves four teams with just one league loss: Muncy, Canton, South Williamsport and Sayre.
After a scoreless first half Muncy's Tyler Moyle got the Indians on the scoreboard with a four yard run with 4:34 left in the third quarter. After the Chris Secules two-point conversion run Muncy led 8-0.
The Indians went right back at it in the fourth quarter as Rijad Sabanovic caught a 69 yard touchdown strike from Anthony Barbiero 10 seconds in to the quarter to go up 14-0.
With 4:13 left in the game Muncy scored again, this time on a 6-yard run by Clayton Good. After the Scott Appleman kick they led 21-0.
Canton came back as Jordan Campbell scored on a 1-yard dive with 2:18 left in the game. After the Brian Jannone kick they cut the deficit to 21-7.
However, Muncy put them away for good as Troy Hembury ran 54 yards for a touchdown with 2:03 left in the game. After the Appleman kick the Indians led 28-7, which was the final.
Canton's run attack didn't quite get going as they 149 yards on 43 carries. Leading the way was Ben Pepper's 50 yards on 14 carries while Jordan Campbell had 44 yards on 13 carries. Wes Moore had eight carries for 37 yards while Scott Rockwell carried the ball eight times for 18 yards.
Pepper was 7-for-17 through the air for 81 yards with one pick. Moore was his favorite target with four catches for 32 yards.
Hembury led Muncy with 12 carries for 101 yards and a score. Through the air Babeiro was 5-for-5 for 133 yards with his score.
