HUGHESVILLE - In its first four games, Hughesville had trouble scoring points. A big reason was its inability to capitalize on scoring chances. That theme continued for the Spartans in Friday's homecoming game against undefeated Athens, as despite outrushing the Wildcats 251-131 and holding onto the ball for a majority of the second half in which it trailed, the Spartans fell to Athens 13-7.
SAYRE - In a game that many thought would be close, Sayre showed their toughness by bouncing from last week's loss for a 28-0 shutout and Sayre head coach Larry Hanafan gave Canton credit for their win.
CANTON - The Canton offense continued to click on all cylinders as they overwhelmed Cowanesque Valley 49-12 in football action Saturday.
MUNCY - Merle Moscarello stood alongside the Lewisburg sideline, watching his younger teammates take snaps in a game the Green Dragons had decidedly in hand. His work on the field already done as shown by his white jersey that was caked with mud, Moscarello gave his teammates one final show.
JERSEY SHORE - Montoursville made sure it scored on third down this time.
MOUNT CARMEL - Carmen DeFrancesco has proven to be a "Master Motivator" throughout his football coaching career, and perhaps he is on the way to pulling off one of his best efforts yet. On a night when Mount Carmel celebrated one of the storied programs greatest wins, the Red Tornadoes thoroughly and methodically dispatched of Loyalsock, 43-0, Friday at the Silver Bowl.
MONTGOMERY - For the Red Raiders on their homecoming night in the rain, it came down to a huge fourth down stand on defense. If Montgomery could just hold the Spartans, it would all but seal a win.
WYALUSING - While the Trojans muddied up their white uniforms they came out all smiles as they used a physical defense and timely offense to blank the Rams 26-0 in football action Friday.
BLOSSBURG - When Towanda and North Penn opened their preseason camps, each team put a mark next to the September 23rd match-up knowing that it would be a season defining game.
TROY - After a first half controlled by the Athens Wildcats, the Troy Trojans were suddenly in business in the second half.
Spectators watched Skye Stiner break tackles, score touchdowns and intercept a pass Friday at Rodney K. Morgans Stadium. They watched Nathan Stettler fly to the ball while making 14 tackles and they watched Nick Harer make a game-changing interception as North Penn defeated South Williamsport, 34-7.
Tyler Weaver leaped high, made the interception and held the football high into the night air as happy teammates swarmed him.
BLOOMSBURG - The fog at Central Columbia's football field began rolling in from all four corners of the field. It slowly engulfed Loyalsock's players and coaches as they sat in the soaking wet grass, listening to head coach Alex Jackson reading them the riot act.
BLOSSBURG - North Penn senior quarterback Jason DeHaven threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns while Marquis Delgado and Skye Stiner each used big plays to lead the Panthers to a 31-7 victory over visiting Canton Monday night.
Sayre got another strong game out of Jesse Dagutis as they moved to 2-0 with a 26-7 win over Bolivar-Richburg in football action Monday.
