Playoff week for most teams in the area.

This is playoff week for most teams left in action. Two local soccer teams are still alive while District IV and Section IV volleyball playoffs heat up.

In football Waverly and Tioga will be defending their Section IV titles this week while the Pennsylvania football teams have their rivalry games.

The PIAA Championships will be held on Saturday while the Section IV Championships go off on Thursday.

But as always nothing is certain due to the inclement weather predicted for the first half of the week.


Section IV will be holding their Class title games this week.

Tioga will be defending their Class D title against Groton on Friday night at Ty Cobb Stadium (Union-Endicott High School) at 7 p.m.

Waverly will face Chenango Forks for the Class C title on Saturday, 5 p.m. also at Ty Cobb Stadium.

In Pennsylvania its rivalry week with Canton at Troy, Wyalusing at Towanda, Sayre at Athens and North Penn at Wellsboro. All games begin at 7 p.m.


Two NTL teams are still alive in playoff soccer action.

They will be back to back at Balls Mills on Tuesday. Northeast Bradford will take on Benton at 5 p.m. in Class A boys' action while Athens will follow at 7 p.m. against Danville in Class AA girls' action.

The rain date for the two games is Wednesday.


In District IV and Section IV the playoffs get rolling.

The district Class AA quarterfinals started on Saturday with Wellsboro and Mansfield moving on. Wellsboro will face Troy at 6 p.m. at Williamson on Tuesday with Mansfield following against Shamokin.

The title game is slated for Thursday back at Williamson.

In Section IV Class C top seeded Waverly will host the winner of Watkins Glen and Sidney while in Class D Tioga welcomes Bainbridge-Guilford. Both games start at 6 p.m.

The semi-finals will be on Thursday at Horseheads Fieldhouse with a 4:15 p.m. start with the finals on Saturday at Wakins Glen with a 3:30 p.m. start time for the first final.


The PIAA Championships will be held on Saturday down at the Hershey course. With the new classifications the Class A girls' race starts at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Class AA and AAA races.

The Class A boy's race will kick things off at 11:45 a.m. followed by the Class AA and AAA boy's races.

Waverly and Tioga will be at the Section IV Championships on Thursday at Chenango Valley State Park. The girl's race is at 11:30 a.m. followed by the boy's race at 12:30 p.m.


Waverly will host the Section IV Preliminaries on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

The final will be at Owego on Saturday, November 3.
