The Black Knights got a big defensive play in the first quarter, but Mahanoy scored 31 points as they beat Towanda 31-14 in the season opener for both football teams.
Mahanoy struck first as Matt Lewandowski scored from a yard out to put them up 7-0.
Towanda got on the board in the first quarter when Griffin Sites scooped up a fumble and took off 65 yards for the score. The kick failed and Towanda trailed 7-6.
Mahanoy scored 10 points in the second quarter and seven each in the third and fourth on their way to the win.
Keegan Kisner had a fourth-quarter touchdown for the Black Knights, scoring on a 41-yard run. Luke Tama caught a two-point pass from Dalton Potter to cap the Black Knights scoring.
Kisner had 53 yards on seven carries and Potter gained 25 yards on seven carries, while Sites had two carries for 19 yards and Todd Coss carried three times for seven yards.
Potter was 5-for-14 for 26 yards passing and Koss, Matt Mcneal, Kisner, Tama and Sites all had catches in the game for Towanda.
Lewandowski ran for 81 yards and threw for 46 for Mahanoy in the win.
